A genetic mutation resulted in the Lionhead, a rabbit with longer fur around its head and rear, which later turned generally identified as the “mane” gene. Eventually the breed made its means into the United States in the ’90s, and was formally accepted into the American Rabbit Breeders Association in 2014. An energetic and affectionate breed, Lionheads are nice pets, particularly for households with kids. However, they do want extra grooming and care than some other breeds.
