The wings are kind of developed relying on the species; the only recognized teams that lost their wings are the extinct moa and elephant Birds. Many authors have used a definition just like “all theropods closer to birds than to Deinonychus”, with Troodon being sometimes added as a second exterior specifier in case it’s closer to birds than to Deinonychus. Avialae is also sometimes defined as an apomorphy-based clade . Jacques Gauthier, who named Avialae in 1986, re-defined it in 2001 as all dinosaurs that possessed feathered wings utilized in flapping flight, and the birds that descended from them.
