Colorful, notably tropical, birds (e.g., parrots, and mynahs) are sometimes stored as pets although this follow has led to the unlawful trafficking of some endangered species. CITES, a global settlement adopted in 1963, has significantly decreased trafficking in the bird species it protects. More than one-third of U.S. fish and wildlife species are vulnerable to extinction within the coming decades.
